woodlotMark your calenders the The 2016 Winter Woodlot Tour is coming up on Saturday January 30th!  This is the 6th year for this annual event. The location for this year’s winter woodlot is is just past the Centre acadien Grand-Rustico/Ecole Saint-Augustin near 2289 Church Road, Rte 243, in Rustico.  Turn north off of Route 6 at Gallant’s Clover Farm and Irving, located half-way between Oyster Bed Bridge and North Rustico, onto Church Road.  There will be clear signs up all day to direct you to the location.  The event runs from 9:00am to 1:00pm; our storm date will be Saturday, February 6th at the same time and location.  Postponement information will be posted on the WRIG website and Facebook page as well as on the event’s Facebook page:  PEI Winter Woodlot Tour.
This is a free, family-friendly event open to the public.  This year there will be horse drawn sleigh rides, snowshoeing, maple-syrup tapping, forest plants and wildlife, woodland crafts, and much, much more!  We will have a big heated tent with exhibitors and free hot cider.  There will also be a walking trail with various activities along it – bring your whole family out for some winter fun and camaraderie!
The Winter Woodlot Tour is organized by the Wheatley River Improvement Group, the Hunter-Clyde Watershed Group, Central Queens Wildlife Federation, and the PEI Department of Communities, Land and Environment. A BIG thanks to the PEI Wildlife Conservation Fund for their financial support of the 2016 Winter Woodlot Tour as well as all those who have contributed to the success of this event both this year and in past years.
