Business arising from Minutes

Post Card fundraiser

We have come to an agreement that we will no longer be producing our Community Post cards. We will re-visit this again in the future, but feel that if we do need to do fundraising there are other ways that are better. Bennett brought up the idea of a postcard App. Potential fundraising idea – Ceilidh/kitchen party/Variety Show potentially at Preserve Co.

Special projects/ Park needs

Rosemary updated us that 3 benches and 3 picnic tables have been delivered. The boardwalk will be assessed in the spring. Question what we should do with the old ones? What we need is someone to do an analysis about what the community is missing and what we need to make it a destination.  Also need to make our parks more user friendly, visible with signage. Apply for student to look after green spots. Partnership with watershed or split cost  with another community like Hunter River.

Community Sledding Party

Sledding party is tentatively booked for March – weather dependant. Members can bring cookies, Erin will supply hot chocolate. Carl will supply venue.

Community Olympic Viewing

Depending on how the men’s hockey team does at Sochi and what time the final is we will try to have a community viewing at the Fire dept. on the big screen. May not happen due to time difference with Russia.

Go! PEI program

Erin will correspond with Josh Whitty and Margaret Prouse about holding event “cooking on the go” near the end of March at The Olde Glasgow Mill.

Website

The board gave Brad the go ahead to develop a website for the community. This would link all local businesses, things to do and include photos and information of community activity as well as facebook feed. This would link well to the gov’t website as a tool for potential visitors& residents looking to buy in New Glasgow. Also, the idea of recognition from donation was brought up -Bronze/Silver/Gold depending on monetary amount. The Board will budget in a suitable amount to be paid to Brad.

Christmas tree Lighting

Tree lighting and candlelight walk was a huge success! 50+ people, great weather fresh dusting of snow and moonlight. Stopped at both gazebos to sing and sang a few more songs at The Tree. Bennett’s brother did a great job as Santa and the gathering at The Mill was great! Bennett took the lights off the tree and Erin has all the candles and holders.
